New template Amelie :)

This post was made with an older stylesheet

I thought to make a new template for 3 reasons. First because some guys asked for a mobile version. Second because few other non-GNOME sites have made some really cool pages (hmm!); but mostly because we want to get away from this just a blog thing.

So we are going to add many more stuffs about GNOME than just posts, and make it easier for new users not just use it but to involve with it.The page is pretty empty now, but the basic things work. Posts, Search and mainly our precious ads (actually they don’t)!

I had to upload it incomplete for trying services that are bind on domain and testing Ajax. I tried to keep a backward compatibility with our previous posts (it loads some different settings for them), but possible some old posts will be a mess.

About the mobile thing; I have disabled it for now and page works at minimum width in 1000px till I make it working better! Oh, the logo is just the necessary home button, plus I like plane-tree leaves!

That’s all, I hope you like it!

    like :)

  • StateCircle

    Like it. Much improved.

  • jon_downfromthetrees

    Oooh, live redesign! Have fun!

I like the plans. Should fill some big gaps in the Gnome world.

nice, keep up the good work!

  • pahnin

nice but the side bar I can’t see it completly, its larger than my screen height

    • alex285

Oh yes I know, I will remove fixed elements for small screens

    • alex285

If you clear your cache, I made the sidebar relative for content with height < 700px.

      • pahnin

        ya better now

  • Michael Mistretta

Seems like there’s a lot of empty space now, to be honest.

    • alex285

Better now? I just reduced the spaces. I can align in center, but I don’t really like it. Refresh browser!

  • Wolframium

Nice, but instead of a mobile version why not make the site responsive? After all it sucks viewing a mobile version on a tablet (happens sometimes on some sites/tablets)

    • alex285

It is responsive, that was I meant by mobile version. Still for small screens you need to hide some elements, like the RSS reader :(

      • Michael Mistretta

Wouldn’t it be possible for it to detect which browser is being used and initiate the mobile version? I have not yet tried the site on my tablet but it definitely is a step back from the desktop version on my PC, in my opinion.

Do appreciate the work you do though, just honest feedback.

        • alex285

Too much work to keep two different styles :( But give us some time, because everything is missing here, but the posts :)

      • Wolframium

It is? I tried resizing my window screen and nothing changed.

Later i’ll try it on a tablet, but still using media queries something should have happened.

Also getting weird rendering errors on chromium 26.0.1410.43-2 on arch linux.

        • alex285

Hard to notice at the moment cause I have set min-width-1000 max-width-1300. I’ve Chrome 26 without issues.

  • Bilbo

Looks cool to me =) Maybe to add some grey or other colors to the dash on the right and top pannel?

hmmm … really don’t want to sound like a troll, but I liked the older style for a couple of reasons.
    1. There was this close sign on each of the pages which was quite unique and intuitive
    2. The home, forums and g+ icons on top made more comfortable navigating.

Now I feel like I am browsing inside a Unity interface!

  • Jakub Steiner

Much better. All you need is a GNOME style footer art now :)

    • alex285

I just spend 20min and I didn’t manage to put grass.png! It collides with fixed bar on the left. Even when I made the bar static when someones scrolls to the end, still looks bad :(

It’s nice, but the borders need more contrast

  • fabrixx

    i prefear old version :(

  • David Guglielmi

Don’t see the download link ? It’s not open source ? I find the new look cool.

    • alex285

Download for the template? It’s very specific made, even if you get it, you won’t be able to use it in another wordpress. You will also need our database.

  • kostaskaz

Must admit I kinda liked the old design because is was unique but as with every other visual change on the Internet, we’ll get used to it and forget the past one ever existed.

Any way to get the old version back? I can’t stand it in Firefox… In Epiphany it looks neat though

    • alex285

This is my Firefox. Yours might not render the icons. I have seen this bug before. If not this, whats the problem?

      • http://ekd123.org/ Mike Manilone

After a complete refresh, the bug has gone. :-) Good job

  • Brian Robles

Looks very much like Google plus. Not sure that’s a bad thing, though. My main gripe is that it’s too white. A little color would be nice :)

    • alex285

Little color just came :) A blue chart (gnome wall colors) and a red line in tabs.

  • hells_dark

It does not work properly on my chromium… (firefox is ok)

    • alex285

hey, can you please show somewhere a screenshot? I guess you already clear your cache!

      • hells_dark

Yeah, I cleared the cache :/
That’s why I find it weird because I’m sure you checked…

        • hells_dark

Hey, it seems to be okay now !
I guess the cache has not been cleared correctly…

  • foobar

I think I’m going to follow you guys via g+ for a while. :P

    • alex285

Hey, you think we copy G+? Well, we did ..not! The truth is that it just happened, really! Was I convincing enough? ;)

Okay I copy some things like arrows in posts, the shading in header and icons on left. But nothing more. The rest was too hard ;)

It is just the bootstrap that looks like Google’s sites.

Very nice theme! Better than old style. Good luck! :)

  • http://funsurf-blog.blogspot.com/ Satyajit Sahoo

    I thought I came to a different website O.o

  • fabrixx

In android with firefox beta this theme is strange mix of bars

Still experiencing issues with the sidebar here, this is Aurora, Epiphany, Firefox:
